BRUSSELS -In 2006 Belgium attracted almost USD 72 billion foreign investment, twice as much as in 2005. This is contained in the Unctad’s World Investment Report 2007.

The report attributes the increase to the favourable tax laws of the coordination centre in Belgium and the interest relief which came into effect at the beginning of 2006. Belgium ranks in the top five of countries which attracted most foreign investment in 2006. The US was number one; the low exchange rate of the US dollar made it attractive for companies from Europe and Japan to invest in the US. The US attracted USD 175 billion in foreign investment last year. Conversely, the US invested USD 216 billion abroad.
