BRUSSELS - Belgian police on Friday arrested the star striker of Flemish football club Sint Truiden on suspicion of people trafficking, Belgian television reported.

Rwandan born Desire M'Bonabucya, 27, was arrested during a training session, the report said.

He is suspected of smuggling fellow Rwandans into Belgium by claiming they were members of his family, the report added.

M'Bonabucya captained the Rwandan national team during this year's African Nations Cup.

He first came to Belgium in 1995, where he played for FC Malinois.

Between 1997 and 2000 he played for Turkish club Gaziantepspor before returning to Belgium to take up the contract with Sint Truiden.
