Football: Blatter welcomes Belgian-Dutch 2018 World Cup bid
FIFA president Joseph Blatter on Monday welcomed a joint Dutch and Belgian bid for the 2018 soccer World Cup.
The FIFA president met with Belgium's King Albert II, prime minister Albert Van Rompuy and Brussels mayor Freddy Thielemans to discuss the joint bid and other issues, a statement said.
"It was a signal to demonstrate how all our public authorities are backing the project," coordinator Alain Courtois said.
Courtois was the man behind the Euro 2000 tournament in Holland and Belgium, which was won by France.
