Flemish government victim to eight cyber attacks this year
With at least eight attempts so far this year to hack into the Flemish government’s internet applications, an estimated 320 000 euros each month will be spent on technology to secure its sites, Flemish minister of administration Geert Bourgeois N-VA said in parliament in response to a question raised by Griet Smaers VD&V. Non-recurrent investments in security technology, which range from 500 000 to 2 million euros each year, provide optimal coverage but online security could well increase during the next few years. The federal government is equally prepared to provide for protection against the threatening wave of cyber attacks in their budgets after their information and communications technology Fedict registered seven serious attacks on their sites last year. Both governments meet from time to time to discuss these safety incidents and cyber threats to ensure urgent action.
