Five art events team up as Visual Art Flanders
Next year Flanders will host five international art events, united under the banner of Visual Arts Flanders 2012. The five participants include Beaufort 04, TRACK, Middelheim, Manifesta 9 and Newtopia. Beaufort 04 is the fourth edition of the Triennial for Contemporary Art at Sea and will showcase the works of 27 contemporary artists at various locations. The TRACK event in Ghent will exhibit the works of 30 international artists outside the museum. The open-air museum Middelheim in Antwerp will undergo a metamorphosis next year, with a half-open pavilion by Paul Robbrecht, an exhibition by Thomas Schütte and monumental creations by Ai Weiwei. Manifesta, the European Biennale of Contemporary Art, will showcase the works of young European artists in Genk and Newtopia in Mechelen will run the first major contemporary exhibition that explores the relation between art and human rights. On 6 December the five events will be the subject of a discussion at the Tate Modern in London during an interview with the Belgian new Tate director Chris Dercon.
