BRUSSELS – Five Belgian tennis stars were on Monday named among the top 50 players in the world.

The tennis governing body, ATP, ranked Olivier Rochus, who was knocked out of the eighth round of the Masters Series in Madrid, in twenty-fourth position in the world.

That is the best ranking so far that the Belgian number one has been awarded.

Brother Christophe Rochus moved up the world table by four places to enter the top 50 at 48 while Xavier Malisse hung on to his forty-sixth place.

Belgium's female players, though, continue to outshine their male counterparts in the sport, with Kim Clijsters ranked second in the women's ranking after the American Lindsay Davenport. Her rival Justine Henin was classed sixth.
