BRUSSELS – The number of deaths and casualties on Belgian roads has fallen by 6.8 percent between 2003 and 2004.

A drop in 3 655 of road casualty statistics was recorded by the Road Security Barometer and presented by Transport Minister Renaat Landuyt on Tuesday.

In 2004, the new low in traffic accidents was seen in all parts of Belgium, with the exception of Brussels.

The biggest fall was noted in Wallonia, where deaths and injuries went down 10.4 percent.

Accidents in Flanders maintained the Belgian average, falling six percent.

But in Brussels, this tendency was reversed and casualties went up 0.9 percent.
