European Museum Forum impressed by Antwerp's MAS
The Antwerp MAS Museum has beaten 41 challengers from 21 different countries to win the Siletto Award, a prize created by the European Museum Forum.
The MAS Museum aan de Stroom (Museum at the Stream) receives the prize for its volunteering and community network, 2 years after it first opened its doors.
The European Museum Forum's (EMF) Annual Assembly took place in Belgium, where it was hosted by Limburg's Gallo-Romeins Museum. The event culminated in a prestigious awards ceremony in Tongeren's Basilica.
The main trophy, the European Museum of the Year Award, went to Scotland's Riverside Museum: Scotland's Museum of Transport and Travel.
The Siletto Award was won by Belgium's MAS. The EMF explains on its website why: "This MAS city museum shows real innovation and commitment in how it connects with the city and its communities. The EMYA Judging Panel was impressed with the diverse and new ways of how the museum engages the public and local communities to present the identity of Antwerp."
