BRUSSELS — Belgian Elvis Presley impersonator Franz Goovaerts, of Charleroi, has been named the world's best imitator of The King.
Goovaerts, 30, was considered the best of 65 candidates during the Elvis Imitation World Championship in the US city of Memphis, just 2km from Graceland.
"I was third on two occasions. So I knew there was victory in there," said Goovaerts, who originated from Antwerp before moving to Charleroi.
He dedicated his victory to his father, who died two years ago, and to Elvis himself.
Goovaerts collected prize money of USD 800 for his win.
He can also buy a new Elvis costume and wig from the organisation. Additionally, Goovaerts also collected a watch for his efforts.
But he is also assured of several performances.
Goovaerts had earlier quit his job as chef to perform full-time.
