Electrabel to build mega wind turbine park
Electricity producer Electrabel is going to build the largest wind turbine park in Belgium near Sint-Truiden
Electricity producer Electrabel is going to build the largest wind turbine park in Belgium near Sint-Truiden (province of Limburg). Some 20 turbines will be built to provide electricity to 40,000 families.
Electrabel is working together with the municipal authorities of Sint-Truiden, Landen and Gingelom in Flanders and Hannuit, Lincent and Hélécine in Wallonia.
Each wind turbine in the new park will have a capacity of about two to three megawatt.
The necessary permits and licenses to proceed with the project are expected to be completed "very soon". Construction can then begin and the turbine park is expected to be finished and ready for use from 2010.
Once operational the park is expected to be able to generate 100,000 to 140,000 MWh per year. This should be enough electricity to supply 40,000 families. The carbon dioxide emission from the park is calculated to be about 60,000 tons per year.
