BRUSSELS – Belgian paedophile and alleged child killer Marc Dutroux was allowed to entertain a romantic correspondence with a 15-year-old girl from the confines of his cell for a period of two years, it was revealed.

Dutroux, who is still awaiting trial for the kidnapping and abuse of six girls in the mid-90s, of which four died, wrote romantic letters to “Isabelle” between 1996 and 1998.

The correspondence reportedly began some two weeks after the discovery of the bodies of two eight-year-old girls in his cellar, according to Le Soir newspaper.

The letters, which were all signed “Your little Prince Marc,” to his “little flower,” spoke of the couple's love for each other and their eventual reunion.

Over the two-year period, 200 letters were written by Isabelle, while Dutroux wrote some 400 pages.

It was reported that authorities in the high security prison in which Dutroux was being held were aware of the correspondence but made no moves to intervene despite reading them all.

Authorities also allowed Dutroux to receive photos of the girl, which he had asked her to take from certain angles.

Dutroux's trial is due to commence in March of next year – he denies many of the charges which have been brought against him.
