BRUSSELS — The federal secretary of the Francophone green party Ecolo on Thursday sharply criticised Elio Di Rupo, the leader of the Socialist PS party.
Jean-Michel Javaux said "Elio Di Rupo in the PS and Namur had placed a heavy mortgage on the activities of the Francophone parties".
"We [the Francophone parties] have not seen each other together for a year," the Ecolo secretary said in an interview with newspaper 'Le Soir'.
Javaux said if Di Rupo considers himself the builder of a Francophone federation, "he is no longer qualified to perform this role".
He said Di Rupo should leave Namur, stressing that Wallonia will only recover from its malaise if Liège and Charleroi become the spearheads.
"Therefore, the confidence of investors must be won and they have to be certain that an open and transparent dialogue can be entered into with political representatives," he said.
Javaux said hostilities between the baronies had to end, along with the clientelism "that hinders the Wallonian from taking the future into their hands".
On a federal level, Javaux said Wallonia had to recognise who would be the future bridge builders in Flanders.
He indicated that Socialist SP.A leader Johan Vande Lanotte was a good candidate, despite the fact it is extremely hypothetical that he would ever become prime minister.
