BRUSSELS – Courier company DHL is to make Leipzig, Germany its intercontinental hub, according to reports in the Belgian press on Thursday.

However, although the Flemish daily newspapers Het Nieuwsblad and De Standaard said the company was to opt for the German town, the French paper L’Echo said DHL had settled on Vatry in France.

The decision has been up in the air ever since DHL – which is owned by Deutsche Post - ruled out expansion at Brussels National Airport after disagreements over whether it would be allowed to run more night flights.

Xavier De Buck, spokesman for DHL Belgium, said a decision on the location of the enlarged base was due to be taken soon. He insisted that he had been given no indication by Deutsche Post about the likely country.
