BRUSSELS - Dutch truckmaker DAF will slash its work force in half at its Westerlo factory in northern Belgium, cutting 873 jobs, trade union leader Luc Hendrickx said Monday.

The company will probably announce the move on Tuesday, added Hendrickx of the Christian CSC union.

A DAF spokesman told the Belga news agency that he could not confirm the number of lay-offs but admitted that job cuts would be made.
