Crèche has to close because of smelly nappies
A justice of the peace in Ghent has ordered a day nursery in the Mariakerke district of the city to close following complaints from local residents.
The crèche 'Mini-Nijntje' is located on the ground floor of a block of flats. Residents have complained about smelly nappies or diapers and children that make too much noise. The residents took the matter to a justice of the peace and he has now ruled in their favour.
The parents of the fourteen children that use the day nursery will have to find somewhere else to take their offspring.
The mother of six month old Fleur told VRT News: "It's dreadful. We chose this crèche a year ago and my daughter has only been here for two months. I hope we soon find a solution!"
Ghent city cabinet member for Innovation and Work Sofie Bracke too is incredulous. She wrote on Facebook: "My children used to go to an affiliated crèche in Drongen. The staff put their heart into their work. If there's no room for child care then something is profoundly wrong with our society."
