Conviction for Belgian Johnny Hallyday fan over Facebook comment
A Belgian woman is among three fans of the French rock singer Johnny Hallyday, who has been convicted by a French court in connection with defamatory words that she posted on Facebook.
At the end of 2009 the woman blamed Dr Stéphane Delajoux for serious complications suffered by the French crooner following an operation.
The Belgian woman and a gentleman from the northern French city of Lille got a 400 euro fine for defamation. A French woman was fined a further 100 euros.
Dr Stéphane Delajoux operated on Johnny Halliday in November of 2009 after he suffered a hernia. After the operation the singer took a flight to Los Angeles in the United States, but due to an infection he ended up in the intensive care unit of an L.A. hospital where he required fresh surgery.
Fans rounded on the doctor blaming him for their idol's plight. The physician has now been awarded one euro in moral damages.
