Club Brugge v Sporting Anderlecht ends all square
The top match of this weekend’s twelfth day of play in Belgian football’s First Division has ended in a 1-1 draw.
The result sees Club Brugge remain at the top of the league with 25 points from twelve games. However, a win for Standard in their match at Sporting Lokeren this evening could see the West Flemings knocked off the top spot.
Sporting Anderlecht are now fourth with 23 points from 12 games.
Club Brugge got off to a flying start with Wesley Sonck putting the home side one up just four minutes into the match.
This opened up the game with Anderlecht pushing forward in search of an equaliser.
The visitors had more than their fair share of chances, but Juhasz, Wasilewski and Legaer all either shot wide or had their efforts saved by the Club Brugge keeper Stijnen.
Second half equaliser
Anderlecht’s equaliser came four minutes into the second half when Mbark Boussoufa put the perfect finishing touch to a well-thought-out attack.
Club Brugge had a difficult second half and never looked like regaining the lead.
The chances were all for Anderlecht.
The visitors went down to ten men after Frutos was given a somewhat dubious second yellow card on eighty minutes.
The score remained all square until the final whistle.
Missed opportunity for Standard
Standard had the chance to move alone into the first position in the overall standings but they drew 1-1 with Lokeren
Ouwo Moussa Maazou opened the scoring in the 72nd minute but Dieumerci Mbokani struck just two minutes, saving face for Standard.
