BRUSSELS – Christmas trees will be considerably more expensive this year. The Ardennes Union of Spruce growers suspects that on average a Norwegian Spruce – the most popular Christmas tree in Flanders – will be 10 to 20 percent more expensive, depending on its size.

"An average tree of 1.75 metres in height will cost at least EUR 22, the price was EUR 20 in 2006," says Dominique Raymackers of the spruce growers' organisation. The reason behind the increase in price is the enormous demand throughout Europe.
