China returns AIDS interview tapes to VRT
The tapes were taken away from journalist when he was beaten up two weeks ago.
Tom Van de Weghe, VRT's China correspondent, is getting his tapes back. The tapes made while preparing a story on AIDS in China were taken away from the journalist when he was beaten up two weeks ago.
The incident happened in Henan province in central China.
Mr Van de Weghe is meeting a delegation of officials from Henan province on Friday. The reporter was threatened and attacked by local officials. They also forced him to part with tapes of several interviews.
After the incident VRT News demanded an apology for its journalist, compensation for the damage caused and a guarantee that the journalist would be allowed to work freely in the country.
On Friday Mr Van de Weghe is seeing Henan officials in the presence of a representative of the Belgian embassy in Beijing. His equipment is also being returned to him.
