The group of about 30 men vandalised the establishment and injured six people, one of whom was hit on the head and suffered severe concussion. Other patrons were robbed.

The raid took place at about 11.30pm on Saturday as the gang stormed into the building carrying baseball bats, golf clubs and other such weapons.

Nightclub security staff quickly alarmed police, who quickly arrived at the scene and arrested 16 suspects.

The detainees have been charged with forming a gang, assault, vandalism and theft.

The nightclub will remain closed under security can be guaranteed.

It is not yet known what the motive for the attack was, but there have been a couple of other recent incidents involving Chechens in the region.
