BRUSSELS – Formateur Yves Leterme and Flemish Christian Democrat CD&V chairperson Jo Vandeurzen want to know by the end of this week whether a Christian democrat – liberal coalition with state reform plans is possible, otherwise they want to look into whether a tripartite coalition could offer a solution for the crisis. This is the sentiment in the CD&V, though no one wants to publicly declare it.

The formation meetings are at an impasse in the meantime. Christian democrat and liberal parties looked hopefully to socialist SP.A and green Ecolo for support for state reform last week. After the events of last week these two parties do not want to take part in negotiations without clarity on what direction these will take.
