Brussels Twitter Festival on March 24
Tickets are now on sale for the 2011 edition of Brussels Twitter Festival (Twestival) and, this year, a cool social networking fair has been added ahead of the usual party night.
The annual global event, which takes place in more than 40 countries across the world this year focuses on local charities, with Europe's Children Our Concern chosen by the Brussels Team. The Belgium-based charity helps children with learning difficulties.
Twestivals have happened in Brussels before, but the social networking fair in the afternoon at Radisson Royal Blu Hotel is an ambitious addition. It will feature stands with around 20 businesses and organisations, presentations from speakers, live streaming across the world, all-areas wi-fi access and, of course, the now obligatory networking bar.
And this part of the festival is free.
After the fair, which runs from 3-7.30pm, it's party time at two brand-new downtown venues - The Six Nations pub and Bar Rooster's.
Six Nations, which only opened on 5 March, will lay on snacks and offer a free glass of beer or wine. The snacks and drinks require Twestival goers to buy tickets - at a low price of just 5EUR - online, with all booking fees waived to ensure that all the cash goes to charity. There'll also be a raffle before ticket holders are invited across the street to a bar so new that it won't be open until a day-or-so prior to the event.
From 10.30pm till late this new venue, Bar Rooster's, will offer a free cocktail (with ticket) plus a DJ and dancing into the night.
Twestival co-ordinator Tony Mallett said: "The whole small-but-perfectly-formed festival team is very excited, especially about the ambitious networking fair. We came to it late this year, as the previous organiser was way too busy, and we've undoubtedly set ourselves ambitious targets.
"But with the help of our sponsors and the three fantastic venues we're confident of pulling off three cracking events, one after the other. On top of this, parts of the day will be streamed live around the world, so how cool is that?
"In the end," he added, "it doesn't matter whether you know your Tweets from your Twits. People should just get involved, have a great time and raise plenty of cash for a fantastic charity. And all for a fiver donation."
