Brussels De Munt director awarded Public Sector Manager of the Year
Peter de Caluwe, general director of the Brussels Royal Opera House De Koninklijke Muntschouwburg, has been nominated Public Sector Manager of the Year. This is only the second time the prize, awarded by the Flemish Association for Public Administration and Policy VVBB, goes to a contender from the cultural world. The first one to be awarded this honour was Willy Van Den Bussche during his tenure as curator of the Museum of Modern Art in Ostend in 1997. De Caluwe succeeds Stefaan Van Mulders of the Committee for Youth Care, who in turn succeeded Piet Vanthemsche of the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain. The VVDD lauded De Caluwe for his stong leadership and especially his confident communicative style. In 2011, when the Munt Opera House was nominated Opera House of the Year by the influential German journal Opernwelt, De Caluwe served as president of Opera Europa, the European trade association for opera houses and festivals.
