BRUSSELS – Brussels Airport is struggling with considerable staff shortages. There are hundreds of job openings at the airport at the moment. The airport has had difficulty filling these positions for some time, it reported on Wednesday.

The hundreds of jobs are in all sorts of areas and are listed on the Brussels Airport website (www.brusselsairport.be). The Belgian airlines and baggage handling companies (FlightCare and Aviapartner) are particularly desperate for workers.

Restaurant operator Autogrill/Carestel, the shops at the airport, the security service and the freight sector are also looking for people.

Brussels Airport thinks there are a number of different reasons for the staff shortages. "The arrival of new airlines and expansion of the existing flight routes and frequencies, but also the freight activities are at the root of the strong increase in job openings," a spokesperson for the airport explains.

The 260 businesses active at Brussels Airport employ a total of about 20,000 workers.
