Belgium's King Albert II on three-day visit to Romania
Belgium's King Albert II and Queen Paola arrived in Romania on Tuesday for a three-day visit at the invitation of President Traian Basescu.
BUCHAREST - The royal couple were welcomed with a military ceremony at the presidential palace of Cotroceni by Basescu and his wife Maria, followed by a meeting of the two heads of state.
Later, Albert II met Prime Minister Emil Boc and the presidents of the two parliamentary chambers.
On Wednesday, the king will attend a Romanian-Belgian economic forum, where a number of deals were to be signed in the areas of environment and nuclear research.
It is the Belgian royals' first trip to Romania, and on Thursday, they were scheduled to travel to Sibiu, which was European capital of culture in 2007, as well as a number of culture sites in the region.
