BRUSSELS — A large-scale disaster exercise will be staged this week to test the Belgian authorities' response to a possible worldwide outbreak of bird flu.

The government has drawn up a list of measures that the nation's various governments should implement to guard the nation against a pandemic.

"That plan will be tested in coming days and months to examine what measures stand up in practice," Federal Food Agency spokesman Piet Vanthemse said .

An evaluation will be conducted after the test phase is completed and an adjustment made to measures that are not feasible or unnecessary in practice.

Meanwhile, a survey has indicated Belgian residents are better informed about bird flu than other Europeans, VRT reported.
