Belgium third in Europe for minimum salary

Between 2000 and 2009, the minimum wage in Belgium has increased by EUR 291.

The minimum wage in Belgium is one of the highest in the European Union, at EUR 1,387.49, show Eurostat statistics published in De Morgen on Tuesday. Only Ireland (EUR 1,462) and Luxembourg (EUR 1642) have a higher national minimum wage. 

Seven European countries, including Italy, Germany and Sweden, do not have a minimum salary. In Sweden there are agreed minimums by sector.

Belgium also features third highest on the study of how much buying power a minimum wage salary allows the receiver.
