BELGIUM - With a total of 175 investment projects by foreign companies in 2007, Belgium has maintained its position among Europe's top five countries for inward investment.

The top four countries are the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Spain.

A survey carried out by the management consultants Ernst & Young says that Belgium continues to attract foreign investment.

Greater Brussels is doing particularly well with no fewer than 42 projects by foreign investors having started last year.

However, it's not all good news, as Belgium is attracting less employment-generating investment.

This type of investment was 21 percent down during 2007, leaving Belgium in 12th place in the European Union.
