BRUSSELS - Workers in Belgium use the internet more than workers in many other countries. Some 83 percent of employees make regular use of e-mail and/or internet while at work.

This has emerged from a study of 28 countries carried out by Kelly Services, an international employment organisation for temporary and permanent staff.

Of the 2,000 Belgian employees asked, 76 percent said they used both internet and e-mail, while 5 percent used only e-mail and 2 percent only use the internet for surfing. This puts Belgium at number eight on the list for the use of online communication.

Hong Kong, Mexico, India, Thailand and Indonesia top the list.

As Kelly Services had expected, online communication use was significantly higher among workers with a university education. Those 55 and older are also regular surfers it turns out: 68 percent make regular use of e-mail and/or internet at work. 73 percent say internet use has a positive effect on their productivity.
