BRUSSELS - The Belgian government has warned travellers to be "extra-vigilant" when travelling to Egypt in the wake of Thursday's fatal bomb attacks near the country's border with Israel.

In a statement issued on Friday, the foreign ministry said it was not advising people to cancel trips to Egypt but it warned them to keep abreast of the news when abroad and to follow any instructions given by local authorities.

The foreign ministry argues that in the present unstable political climate no location is entirely safe from the threat of terrorism, but it says North Africa and the Middle East are particularly vulnerable.

Particular vigilance is required in commercial areas and at tourist locations visited by westerners, the foreign ministry says.
