BELGIUM - Belgian Frank De Bleeckere has been chosen to referee the second semi-finals match between Russia and Spain on Thursday.

"I am very, very pleased," says a beaming De Bleeckere.
The Russia-Spain semi-final in Vienna is the third match of the Euro 2008 competition for the 41-year-old referee.

He was the referee in the Germany-Croatia match and the Russia-Sweden match.

Just like in the other three matches, De Bleeckere will be helped by linesmen Peter Hermans and Alex Verstraeten. The fourth official is Kyros Vassaras of Greece.

The referee for the first semi-final, Wednesday, between Germany and Turkey is Massimo Busacca of Switzerland. The referee for the final match is the Italian Roberto Rosetti. It will be his fourth match.

"This is another step up"
De Bleeckere is "very, very happy" that he will be the referee for the Russia-Spain semi-final.

"The tension was tangible in the meeting room at 2 pm when the referee's committee entered. Everyone was hoping he would be chosen," explains De Bleeckere.

"I know that the UEFA organisation thought I did a good job in the two earlier matches, so I knew I stood a chance of being chosen."
