Probe order into 35 million litre petrol leak

The mayor of Beveren in Flanders has ordered the petrol refinery Total to investigate how 35 million litres of petrol leaked out a cistern on its land at Kalloon. The authorities say the leak, which happened on Tuesday evening, poses no threat to public health.

Employers' association praises union goodwill

The Belgian Federation of Companies has reacted positively to a union offer over Friday's general strike, it was reported on Wednesday. Unions have said workers are prepared to talk about working on Saturday to compensate companies for losses suffered on Friday. Employers have complained that businesses are the victims of workers' industrial action against the government's social security reforms.
