BRUSSELS - The chef at a restaurant in the east Flemish town of Kruishoutem has been awarded a top gastronomic accolade.

The 2004 edition of the prestigious GaultMillau Benelux restaurant guide has given Peter Goossens, of the Hof van Cleve, an extremely rare 19.5 out of 20 and four chef's hats.

In total seven Belgian chefs - three in Flanders, three in Wallonia and one in Brussels - have received exceptionally high scores in the new guide.

The 30th edition of the GaultMillau Benelux will be available in bookstores from 17 February.
