Belgian apps developers aim at expansion abroad
Two of the leading apps developers in Belgium, InthePocket from Ghent and AppSolution from Brussels, are seeking growth prospects abroad. These two small up-and-coming enterprises, which both record an annual turnover in excess of one million euros, represent the current boom in mobile applications that can be downloaded by Smartphone or tablet users. AppSolution, with among its clients the media company Roularta, hopes to position commercial teams in various European countries while keeping its developmental base in Brussels. An additional 1 million is sought to finance these expansion plans, increasing the capital value of this Brussels-based enterprise to 4 million euros. InthePocket, apps designer with a client list that includes the radio stations Q-Music, MNM and Studio Brussels, cinema chain Kinepolis and television stations VT4 and VRT, plans to open an office in London. “We don’t currently need any new capital as we continue to streamline our organisation and increase margins,” says fellow founder Pieterjan Bouten. InthePocket also designs applications for well-known foreign clients like Mars, M&Ms, Volkswagen and Samsonite. This tight-knit Ghent-based company with its small team of 18 designs custom-made apps for its various clients, but also boasts its own application, ShowPad. Aimed at the sales market, it is designed to assist sales staff with their marketing and presentation of special offers. Among its users are BASF and Accenture. “We expect a growth explosion and will probably need to seek additional capital next year,” says Bouten.
