BRUSSELS - Brewer InBev is going to raise beer prices in Belgium in two phases. At the beginning of April the price of a barrel of beer (sold to bottlers) will increase by one percent. And on 1 July the price will increase a second time, by 2.5 percent, for both barrels and tins.

Inbev says the first increase is related to the new packaging tax that the federal government has introduced.

The second increase is the result of rising costs for raw materials and packaging, as well as inflation.

Remarkably the price of kegs sold to cafes and pubs will not increase. This is part of InBev's plans to try and boost the number of people going to these establishments.
