Armed men in the Cameroon port city of Douala abducted two sailors, the boat's Belgian owners said on Monday.

"The two men were taken hostage by armed men" in port overnight on Sunday, said Helen Schillinck, a spokeswoman for owners Jan De Nul.

One was Filipino and the other Croatian, she said. The dredger, the Vespucci, was Luxembourg-flagged.

The company was unable to provide any further details.
