BRUSSELS — The Antwerp ring road will return to full capacity on 30 August as the massive maintenance works near completion.
On 23 August, all lanes in the direction of the Netherlands will be systematically opened and from 27 to 30 August the Ghent-bound lanes will be opened.
The re-opening of the road signifies the end to resurfacing works, allowing motorists to use the entire motorway.
From 30 August, several exit and entry ramps to the ring road will be opened in time for the start of the new school year on 1 September.
All of the entry and exit ramps will be open by 10 September, newspaper 'De Standaard' reported on Thursday.
However, the Management Company Antwerp Mobile (BAM) — which was set up in September 2003 to oversee various road works — has warned the traffic misery will not totally be consigned to the past.
It said the road works on the E313/E34 to Hasselt and the E19/A12 to Brussels will continue to cause problems for motorists in the immediate future.
