Antwerp: police shoot dead would-be thief

Police in Antwerp shot a man on Tuesday evening as he was raiding a chemist for failing to drop his weapon.

The police were alerted to the incident via the alarm system operated among Antwerp chemists. 

Officers were confronted by the attacker who refused to lay down his arm, before an officer shot the man in the chest. 

Emergency services attempted to revive him, but the man died at the scene.

Antwerp police staged a reconstruction of the incident at 20h00 on the same day.
