ANTWERP – The trial project in which transport company De Lijn is placing an extra ticket inspector on "difficult" routes failed to prevent another violent incident over the weekend.

A driver on line 23 was off work for three days after being beaten by seven youths on Friday night. The incident occurred almost a year after Guido Demoor died after an incident on the same bus line.

The youth felt that the bus driver had deliberately not allowed them to embark at the stop in front of the Royal Museum for Fine Arts and waited for the bus near the Sportpaleis. There they dragged the driver from the bus and beat him.

His attackers, boys between the ages of 13 and 18, managed to escape.
