BRUSSELS – The Belgian ambassador in Paris, Pierre-Dominique Schmidt, contests "with hand on heart" the allegations that he has used public funds for private purposes and that he has committed forgery to secure bank credits. He announced that he would be filing a complaint about the allegations.

In a statement Schmidt says he has fallen victim to a campaign aimed at destabilising him. He questions the underlying causes and basis of this campaign.

Schmidt has already instructed his lawyers to file suit for damages against unknown perpetrators. He will pursue all legal avenues available to clear his name, he added.
