BRUSSELS — Seven people were injured on Tuesday after hydrochloric acid leaked from a tank in the Flemish town of Zulte.

Six people became unwell and one person suffered burns injuries. They were taken to hospital for treatment.

The hydrochloric acid leaked from a tank at the firm Sobinco, located in the Waregemstraat. The firm manufactures windows and doors.

The cause of the leak was not immediately known, news agency Belga reported.

Phase one of the regional disaster plan was called into action to respond to the spill.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene and transferred the acid across to another tank.
