WALLONIA – A commuter train collided with a freight train in southeast Belgium, leaving 40 passengers injured and two in serious condition.

The accident took place on Thursday morning when the passenger train hit a freight train on the line between Namur and Liège, near Huy in Wallonia.

The train was carrying around 50 passengers. Forty-two of them were injured, with two victims badly hit. It is not clear whether their life is in danger.

Most passengers only sustained minor injuries at the breast or the stomach as they were thrown into the little table in front of them.

The victims were brought to six different hospitals in the area.

Train traffic between Namur and Liège is heavily disrupted. Between Flémalle and Huy, a bus service has been installed.

Investigators are still investigating the cause of the accident.
