BRUSSELS — Some 41,500 bags went missing at Zaventem Airport in Brussels last year.

A total of 33,988 pieces of luggage failed to arrive on time at the airport with its passenger.

The other 7,523 lost bags were pieces of luggage that arrived at the airport but have not yet been claimed.

However, baggage handling firm Aviapartner said 99 percent of lost baggage eventually ends up with its rightful owner within 48 hours.

Aviapartner is one of the two most important luggage handling companies at Brussels international airport.

The Aviapartner figures first appeared in Francophone newspaper 'La Dernière Heure' on Tuesday.
