BRUSSELS – One in three Belgians surfs the internet for private purposes while at work, and this is causing employers to worry.
Businesses primarily fear that productivity will decline, more viruses will make their way onto company computers, and that workers will damage the company's reputation. That is why many employers are taking measures to restrict internet surfing.
A European survey says that 35 percent of the Belgians confirm that they use the internet at work for private purposes.
Flemings do so more than Walloons (46 percent compared to 29 percent, respectively).
The most frequently visited sites are porn websites, shopping and auction websites, informational websites and gambling websites.
