12,000 new jobs this year

Despite the crunch many employers are looking for new staff in Belgium.

A survey of the country's employers has shown that despite the crisis many businesses are planning to recruit new staff this year.

The survey was carried out by the business journal 'Bizz'.

Supermarket chain Colruyt alone intends to recruit 3,500 extra staff this year.

Other employers planning to hire staff include telecom group Alcatel, the Brussels local transport company MIVB and the telephone company Telenet.

Skilled workers with IT training are most sought after. Legal experts and sales managers are also much in demand.
