 Iain Banks at Sterling Books

Iain Banks will be signing his books at Sterling on Tuesday 29 January from 16.00-17.00.

Iain Banks was born in Fife in 1954. At Stirling University he read English Literature with Philosophy and Psychology and he now holds honorary doctorates from both Stirling and St. Andrews.

Banks sprang to widespread and controversial public notice with the publication of his first novel, The Wasp Factory, which was picked out of the publisher’s “slush pile” as an unsolicited manuscript and published in 1984. Since then he has gained enormous and popular critical acclaim with further works of both fiction and science fiction.

In 1993 he was acknowledged as one of the Best of Young British Writers.

In 1996 his number one bestseller, The Crow Road, was adapted for television. His latest fiction novel, The Steep Approach to Garbadale, was published to acclaim in 2007. His latest science fiction novel, Matter, has just been released.

The Times has acclaimed Iain Banks 'the most imaginative British novelist of his generation'.
