Arab art at the Brussels' Royal Flemish Theatre 22/01/2008 00:00

The Royal Flemish Theatre (KVS) is currently staging a ten-day festival of Arab art. Thirty projects embracing a whole range of artistic disciplines form part of the "Meeting points" festival.

A surprising aspect of "Meeting points" is the prominence of audio-visual artistic projects among the exhibits.

A fine example of this is the Egyptian artist Wael Swakys computer animation that is a symbolic reference to the Al Asqa Mosque in Jerusalem.

Crown Prince Filip and his wife Princess Mathilde were at the festival's opening night for a performance of a piece by the Lebanese playwright Nabih Mroué.

The play features four characters who remember the Lebanese civil war of the 1970's and 1980. They focus on the often absurd shifts in the alliances between the various warring militias.

The four are shot to pieces several times during the conflict only to survive to be shot to pieces again.
