Cat tails and tales 04/07/2007 00:00
To celebrate her 75th blog, V-grrrl was going to invite the King but he has a broken leg so she'll make do with persuading Expatica readers to adopt a cat.
Maybe you don’t need a cat, but there’s a cat that needs you !
Summer comes to Brussels and my friends Martina Mueller and Sylvie Prouveur are ever so busy, not with holidays and travel but with their work rescuing abused and abandoned cats in Brussels.
Spring and summer bring bumper crops of kittens and adult cats who lose their homes when their owners or caretakers move and leave them behind.
Earlier this year, I wrote a post about the lovely black kitten I adopted from Sylvie and Martina after they rescued him from a dust bin in Koekelberg. (See For Pete’s Sake) Petey has brought our family so much joy, but so many cats like him are in need of homes.
I’d like to add another cat to our house but my husband resists the idea. « One is enough. We don’t need another cat! »
To which I always reply, "I know we don’t need another cat but another cat needs us."
If you’re lonely or new to Belgium and looking for some company and unconditional love, cats make wonderful pets and companions. Consider these lovelies, currently available for adoption : Canaille
Canaille
Canaille is between 6 and 8 months and is vaccinated and spayed. She was found dodging traffic on the Chaussée de Louvain in Brussels, a very busy road. Hungry and desperate, she kept following people, trying to get their attention, even attempting to jump into their arms. Wouldn’t you love to have her jump in your lap?
Voltaire Zadig
Voltaire & Zadig
These charming brothers are about 10 weeks old and just received their first vaccinations. They were found in the gardens surrounding a building in Brussels. They’re still a bit shy but with continued tender loving care, they will probably lose their reserve.
Mozart
Mozart
Mozart is a very friendly male cat who loves to be handled and purrs all the time. Don’t tell the other cats, but he’s Martina’s favourite. He’s about two years old, vaccinated and neutered. Mozart was abandoned when his owners moved. He’s the perfect cat for someone who enjoys an affectionate and outgoing pet.
Chipie
Chipie
Chipie is so pretty and such a girly girl. She’s behaves like a little lady. She’s between 6 and 8 months old, vaccinated and neutered. The poor girl was thrown out in the street in Brussels and deserves a better life.
Tiger
Tiger
Tiger miraculously survived a mass extermination of stray cats in a Brussels commune. He is a real Belgian cat--he likes good food. He is about 5 to 6 years old and neutered. An easy going fellow with a big purr, he’d love to roam in your garden.
Nico
Nico
Nico has such a pleasant personality, nice and quiet. He’s a little fatty who lost his home in January when his caretakers moved away. He is neutered and 5 to 6 years old.
Ficelle
Ficelle
Ficelle has seen so much suffering in her short life and is understandably shy. Only a year old, she needs a sympathetic and gentle soul to take her in. She’s spayed and vaccinated and ready for a new life. Won’t you give her a chance?
Koekel
Koekel
Koekel is a tenderhearted cat who was blind and living in a cellar. With excellent veterinary care and surgery, he’s recovered some of his sight. He’s 2 years old, neutered, and would be so happy to put the pain and abuse of his old life behind him.
