20/07/2011Summer outodoor activities in Belgium 2011

Summer outodoor activities in Belgium 2011 The good weather appears to coming around. Here are a few places to soak up the sun and keep the whole family amused.

ANTWERP

Summer of Antwerp 2011 from 1 July till 30 August

Zomer van Antwerpen is an exuberant summer season which pops up at the most unexpected places in July and August and which can be felt throughout the city. Check out the free concerts on several city squares, or the circus workshops for children. Go relax with your friends at the "Summer bar in the Woods" -- the central heart of the festival -- enjoying a sunny drink or snack.

Circus fans can enjoy no less than four circuses, of which one is completely free! Theatre buffs can discover hidden spots, and film freaks can settle in a sand castle near the Scheldt for a number of remarkable open air film projections. Or just enjoy the most beautiful spectacle on earth: the sunset. A large, cosy barbecue is provided; just bring your own charcoal.

The Square Merry-go-round spins all summer long, for young and old, on the Astridplein. The grandest merry-go-round ever, for all ages, from the designer of the Giant and the Elephant, François Delarozière! Ride a mega-sized buffalo with the entire family; fish's heads that take you sky-high and insects spinning merrily. And you can steer them, moving their ears and tails and wings!

BLANKENBERGE

Sandsculpture festival from 10 June to 12 September. This year the international Sand Sculpture Festival in Blankenberge is proud to announce a world first: its own unique interpretation of Disneyland® Paris. A fascinating adventure, a surprise-packed voyage of discovery in the fantastic world of ... sand.

A select group of professional artists will give shape and form to a selection of the well-known attractions and unforgettable moments for which Disneyland® Paris is so rightly famous, whilst at the same time giving a new look to some of the most well-loved Disney and Pixar characters -- and all in sand.

It offers a whole new dimension to an event which in recent years has become the most important summer attraction on the Belgian coast. Never before has the enchanting world of Disneyland® Paris been reproduced in the medium of sand -- more than 3,000 square meters of it.

BRUSSELS

Every year a stretch of the port promenade is given over to a beach 1 July to 7 August 2011. The kids can cool down on water slides or learn how to climb. And adults can sit back in the sun, sipping a Cuba Libre. www.bruxelleslesbains.be

BRUSSELS/LA HULPE
Solvay Park/Folon Foundation

The famous Belgian artist Jean-Michel Folon put more than 500 just twenty minutes outside of Brussels, in the farm of the castle of La Hulpe. This charming and characteristic building in the middle of the marvellous Solvay Park is home to more than 40 years of creation.

Watercolours, engravings, posters and sculptures are presented in an original and lively setting, creating a dialogue between the works of art and the poetic place that houses them. Music, films and optical effects enliven the route. The result is a strong, magical and astonishing exhibition.
