Sensum's roaming gastronomic writers recommend five top restaurants in Brussels.Henri
Rue de Flandre, 113 - 1000 Brussels
Tel : 02 218 00 08
Difficult to outshine this restaurant which has become a Brussels institution – in a venue where mussels used to be served up. David De Schepper and brothers Sven and Jurgen Campens have succeeded in making a canteen with pure lines but which sits somewhere between fashionable tastes and authenticity.
Not in the least ostentatious, it keeps a low profile, simple and bright, blending perfectly into rue de Flandre, a street that’s a breath of fresh air in the Dansaert district.
Le Doux Wazoo
Rue du Relais, 21 - 1050 Brussels
Tel : +32 (0)2 649 58 52
For 35 years now, Le Doux Wazoo has been a strictly traditional bistro. It’s known for those devils of dishes which we devour when true hunger takes its grip.
With the exception of Tuesdays, you can bring your own bottle of wine... without corkage charge.

Demanding chef Gauthier De Baere is the one with the know-how here, getting cooking times just right, expedient with the spices and brilliant with the trimmings.
La Branche d'Olivier
Rue Engeland, 172-176 - 1180 Brussels
Tel : +32 (0)2 374 47 05
A fresh country breeze blows through la Branche d’Olivier, a village house located on the fringes of the Kinsendael game reserve in Uccle. You have to pinch yourself – it’s hard to believe that the hustle and bustle of the town is only a few streets away.
With “bistro-gourmet” as a subtitle, it does exactly what it says on the tin. It maintains a culinary tradition - the aroma of typical brasserie dishes is in the air.
